John and Alexandrea Zieman aren’t your typical coin dealers. This dynamic father-daughter duo work out of their weekend storefront, Z-Man’s Coins, at a Brooksville, Florida, shopping center, and their lucky star never seems to go dim. Some of the most impressive finds walk into their shop, including two authentic 1943 bronze cents and the personal family collection of historic relics from the family of Robert Patterson, a Philadelphian who served as a United States Mint director in the early 1800s. More recently, they made a tremendous — and long-awaited — discovery at the Florida United Numismatists 2019 Convention, where they found a rare, early coin slab. It was at the 2019 FUN Show in Orlando in January 2019 where I caught up with these two noteworthy coin experts for a fun chat about rare coins, numismatic passions, and their desire to spread the love of the hobby to the next generation.
This fascinating 15-minute interview is full of wisdom from John, who as a longtime coin dealer and father of a young numismatist, knows what it takes to succeed both as a coin professional and someone who has helped foster the love of the hobby in his twenty-something daughter. Alexandrea has a unique perspective on the hobby, too. She not only has spent more than a decade as both a coin collector and coin dealer, but she has also served more than two years as one of the youngest full-time graders ever to be employed by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
So, whether you’re a seasoned coin dealer or coin collector, a young numismatist, or simply someone who loves a feel-good story, this entertaining and inspiring interview with John and Alexandrea Zieman is not to be missed. Surely you’ll walk away with a whole new perspective on what it means to be a numismatist!
